Subrogation typically involves:
-
Notifying the responsible party. The responsible party may be an individual, or a company. For auto accidents, subrogation claims are usually submitted to the other party's insurance company.
-
Providing documentation of the damages, costs, and facts from the investigation of the loss.
-
Collection of the amount owed. If initial efforts to collect monies owed are unsuccessful, collection could include use of collection agencies or filing a lawsuit.
Completion of the subrogation work may take some time, depending on the willingness and/or ability of the responsible party to pay.
