Understanding the Catastrophe Claim Process

The Catastrophe Claim Process

The National Catastrophe Claim Center is designed to respond quickly to the special problems of widespread damage caused by weather events. The effects of a natural disaster can be devastating, and our primary concern is for you and your family. Our claim specialists have extensive catastrophe experience and are committed to lending a helping hand, and doing whatever they can to help you get your life back to normal as quickly as possible.

After the storm:
  • Do your best to protect yourself and your property from further damage.
  • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage, like covering a broken window or damaged roof with plywood or heavy-duty plastic. Save your receipts and invoices.
  • Inspect the damage and prepare an inventory of the damaged property.

If you have a catastrophe claim:
  • Report your claim as soon as possible. This will help to expedite the repair process and prevent further damage. You can call the National Catastrophe Claim Center at 1-800-340-3016, or you can use the TimeSaver Claim Service number at 1-800-588-7400.
  • If you must leave your home, be sure to provide us with your temporary telephone numbers. We understand that temporary living situations may require that you move around. Please keep us informed of how we may reach you.
  • Tell us if you have any special needs or concerns. We will do our best to respond to you as quickly as possible.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, let the adjuster know so they can be addressed immediately.
  • Be available for the adjuster to inspect any damaged property.
  • Provide receipts, photographs, manuals, videos or other documentation of damaged property.

How We Respond

We're Ready
To ensure we meet our customers' needs, we can scale up or down quickly in response to rapidly changing weather conditions. In addition to our permanent staff, we partner with several independent adjusting firms to help us reach our customers as soon as possible. If needed, we will quickly establish temporary claim service centers in the affected area.

We're There for the Life of the Claim
Unlike many other insurance companies, our National Catastrophe Claim Center will handle your claim from start to finish. This ensures continuity throughout the claim process and helps us to deliver the quality service you deserve.

About Our Claim Process
  • A catastrophe team member will contact you as quickly as possible, generally within 48 hours. Our goal is to inspect all losses within seven days from the time received. As you can imagine, the time it takes to contact each customer depends on, among other things, the number of losses generated by the event. Usually, inspection appointments are scheduled for customers with the most extensive damage first.
  • Your adjuster will discuss your property damage and provide you with a clear explanation of policy coverage and provisions, outline the claim process, prepare an estimate of the damages and answer your claim questions.
  • A catastrophe team representative committed to promptly responding to your phone calls will provide you with contact information to ensure your complete satisfaction with our service.
  • If additional payments are needed after settlement of your claim, contact your adjuster or call 1-800-340-3016 for assistance.  You may also fax paperwork for supplement payment consideration to 888-262-0912.  Please make sure the claim number is on all pages of all faxed documents.

About Flood Claims
Our policies do not provide coverage for flood damage. You may have purchased a separate policy for Flood coverage under the National Flood Insurance Program. The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) Library offers helpful information about filing a flood claim. Contact your agent for information about how to submit a claim or help in purchasing coverage.

About Our Vendor Network
During a catastrophe situation, we usually suspend referrals to our vendor networks of contractors and/or body shops. Often the local service providers are themselves affected by the catastrophe event, and are not in a position to respond. In addition, the demands of many customers at the same time may mean that they cannot deliver at normal service levels. When this situation arises, we do not offer referrals to our preferred network providers.
